Wildfires

There are three wildfires currently burning in our region within New Mexico:  The Thompson Ridge fire, about ten miles north of Jemez, is near the Valdez Caldera National Preserve.  The Tres Laguna fire is located in Pecos Canyon, east of Santa Fe.  Both of these fires were caused by fallen power lines.  The third fire, the Jaroso fire, is the one closest to us; it's off to our southeast about twenty miles, near Truchas.  That one was started by lightning.

Our neighborhood is not in any danger from these fires but we are feeling their effects.  The mornings are generally clear but by mid-afternoon, the smoke is carried in from the south and on some days, it's strong enough to burn your eyes and nose, and make outside activity very unpleasant.  We've been keeping the house closed up to keep the smoke out.

The smoke from the Jaroso fire is visible all day long.  But it doesn't seem to be spreading in our direction.

Mike got some awesome footage of the Jaroso fire, taken from our front yard. Here's one with a meteor, too:

There's more on his Facebook page (Wilderness Vagabonds), including some time lapse of the Jaroso fire.
