Travel, Day 2: New Hampshire to New York State

We got up and drove and drove and drove.

Bridge in New York State.

There were lots of interesting buildings in various states of decay that I would have liked to stop and take pictures of, but this part of our trip has a timeline as we try to get out of the northeast and mid-west before the weather turns cold and snowy.  Unlike the first night, this night I felt less panic at the thought of not having a definite destination and lodgings arranged in advance.  We ended our day at another hospitable Walmart and spent the night in their lot after obtaining permission from the manager.  This lot had an Applebee's located in easy walking distance and though this restaurant had a waiting list just like the place we'd tried to get into the night before, this one also had empty spots at the bar.  Adult beverages were consumed, along with hearty mashed potatoes, gravy, and roasted chicken.  Back in the trailer we each read on our computers and then fell asleep.  This parking lot had much less traffic noise but we ended up with massive tractor trailers parked overnight on either side of us and one of them had a generator that turned on every ten minutes or so for a few minutes.  It's surprising what you can tune out if you're sufficiently tired and comfortable.

One thing that's turning out to be a major pain in our buttocks is moving the solar panels.  Right now we store them on the bed in the trailer since there's no room for them in the Subaru.  When we stop for the night we take the dog and cat out of the car and lay the back seats down flat and then we have a space to move the panels into.  But this means that every time we stop for the night we spend at least half an hour rearranging things between the trailer and the car.  It sucks at night when we're tired after being in the car all day and in the morning when it's cold and damp.  Hopefully we'll figure out over time how to store things so that less moving and re-arranging will be needed.

We had another fantastic sunset.
